Fennel is the ultimate conversation starter: here in the UK, we eat such small quantities of fennel (compared to countries like Italy). It’s distinctive anise and liquorice flavour ensures you either love it or hate it! This white or pale green bulb is crunchy and slightly sweet, adding a refreshing, strong anise note to your cooking. The bulb itself is topped with feathery green leaves.
Precision Growing & Gentle Harvest
We dedicate 80 acres to growing fennel, ensuring quality by irrigating using water from our three reservoirs. To guarantee a continuous supply for our customers, we plant new crops every week from April to July, allowing us to harvest from June right through to November.
Because the fennel bulb is very easy to damage, we take immense care during harvest: each bulb is carefully hand-cut, placed directly into trays in the field, and then transported straight to the customer.
Fun fact: Fennel belongs to the same family as carrot, parsnip, and our own Celeriac. If we were to leave the flowers to grow, they would produce the highly useful fennel seeds, which are also edible, of course.
