We can all agree: more peas, please!
Peas are an essential and valuable break crop in our rotation, and we grow around one hundred acres annually. As members of the Legume family (like beans), peas have the fantastic ability to fix their own nitrogen, leaving useful amounts in the soil for the following crop. Peas are usually drilled in April on our farm and harvested quickly in July. This fast turnaround allows us to plant another crop, such as daffodils or a brassica, very quickly afterwards, maximising the productivity of our land.
Precision Harvesting & Quality:
We belong to the Holbeach Marsh Cooperative, which arranges contracts with local processing factories. Harvesting is entirely organised by the group and operates as a precision 24/7 operation to maximise quality. This intense focus on speed ensures that the crop – which is usually premium petit pois – is frozen within 150 minutes of harvest. This rapid process locks in the fresh flavour and quality for the consumer.
Peas are a favourite vegetable in the UK, and our grower’s organisations have created loads of recipes to celebrate them. Have a look at www.peas.org for inspiration!
